Since I am not a good traveler, Dave mentioned about checking out mountain property, a drive not too far from home. That got my attention. I wouldn't have to deal with the hustle and bustle of traffic, going to and from the airport, early arrivals, security check, and customs at the airport. I won't have to deal with germs on the airplane, motion sickness, attitude sickness or change of diet being away from home. It will be a nice getaway.
First of all, I wanted to make sure I could handle the curvy roads to avoid motion sickness. We tried different routes to determine which town we choose to purchase/build a cabin. We finally narrowed it down to Ellijay, Georgia.
Our criteria, not too many windy roads, mountain view of course, paved roads and not hanging off the cliff so I wouldn't be too frighten to drive. After months of searching, we found a mountain property at Lake Buckhorn subdivision with a view of Rich Mountain! Dave believed it was divine intervention because the quarry he used to operate in Cumming, Georgia was named Buckhorn Minerals!
This raw piece of land gave us a chance to design, create our own cabin and decorate it the way we wanted it. What a wonderful journey we started in January 2017. I started shopping for bargains at Pottery Barn Outlet, Progressive Lighting Outlet, Home Goods, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Ross Dress for Less, Tuesday Morning and any other stores I could finds deals. Wished I had known about Estate Sales then. Our basement became a warehouse until the cabin was completed.
Just about every week, we drove to check on our property and the progress of our cabin. There was so much excitement seeing the birth of our cabin. What was on paper was becoming a reality. The drive to the mountains was breathtaking.
