Searching for Mountain Property

Let's check out the mountains!

Since I am not a good traveler, Dave mentioned about checking out mountain property, a drive not too far from home. That got my attention. I wouldn't have to deal with the hustle and bustle of traffic, going to and from the airport, early arrivals, security check, and customs at the airport. I won't have to deal with germs on the airplane, motion sickness, attitude sickness or change of diet being away from home. It will be a nice getaway.

First of all, I wanted to make sure I could handle the curvy roads to avoid motion sickness. We tried different routes to determine which town we choose to purchase/build a cabin. We finally narrowed it down to Ellijay, Georgia.

Our criteria, not too many windy roads, mountain view of course, paved roads and not hanging off the cliff so I wouldn't be too frighten to drive. After months of searching, we found a mountain property at Lake Buckhorn subdivision with a view of Rich Mountain! Dave believed it was divine intervention because the quarry he used to operate in Cumming, Georgia was named Buckhorn Minerals!

This raw piece of land gave us a chance to design, create our own cabin and decorate it the way we wanted it. What a wonderful journey we started in January 2017. I started shopping for bargains at Pottery Barn Outlet, Progressive Lighting Outlet, Home Goods, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Ross Dress for Less, Tuesday Morning and any other stores I could finds deals. Wished I had known about Estate Sales then. Our basement became a warehouse until the cabin was completed.

Just about every week, we drove to check on our property and the progress of our cabin. There was so much excitement seeing the birth of our cabin. What was on paper was becoming a reality. The drive to the mountains was breathtaking.

Our Builder, Sisson Company

Pam Patterson is the Best!

Pam is the BEST to work with. She allowed us to draw up our own plans for the cabin. Her sister, Caroline worked her magic on the CAD to finalize the details. With group efforts, We Blu Inn was constructed and ready within five months.

Pam was so quick to respond to any of our questions. She even allowed us to shop for our own light fixtures, bathroom fixtures and toilets. She was so accommodating and made this building process a pleasure.

We would highly recommend Sisson Company to build your log cabin. We cannot say enough good things about this company and family. They are a close knit family and they have become our extended family.

They also have their own sawmill across the street from their office. They believe in going green. Scraps are turned into mulch and hamster shredding. Watching the sawmill in operation was the neatest experience. We got to see how the logs for our cabin were made, kiln dried and cured through the aging process.

We also share the same passion for cooking and gardening. We love swapping plants. And they love my cream cheese pound cake.

Thank you Sisson Company and Pam for making our dreams come true!

Our Property Managers

Brian and DeRonda Amberger

This couple did a superb job managing our condo in Panama City Beach, FL. We were so impressed with their performance that we encouraged them to not only manage beach properties but also mountain properties. They have far exceeded our expectations. They pay close attention to details, always on top of things. They are very conscientious and manage our properties the same way as they do their own.

We would also like to recognize our dear friends, Tommy & Mary Thompson who surprised us with this beautiful sign for our cabin. Tommy never cease to amaze us with his wood carving. His skills require years of experience, talent, passion, sharp eyes and steady hands. We have seen so many beautiful toys and christmas ornaments he has built with such precise lines and details. We feel so honored to be on the receiving end.

Talented Neighbors

Larry and Mary Batterman

Larry is so talented building furniture. He has built us a beautiful cedar headboard, an end table, half bath vanity, towel rack, sign and trivets. His custom made furniture added a special touch to our cabin.

Larry does beautiful craftsmanship. He is so talented and creative and can custom build any piece of furniture you’d like. He has an amazing shop and keeps it orderly and clean.

And then his wife, Mary is so creative with her arts and crafts. She made these beautiful yard art with glass plates. She can set up her crafts on their back deck with spectacular mountain view and have fun crafting. What a talented couple.

After shopping around for a cabin looking headboard, we took some pictures and asked Larry if he could build this. His design turned out more beautiful than what we saw.

We wanted the vanity in the half bath to look different from the cabinets in the other bathrooms. Jim and Larry came up with this idea with barn doors.

My sister, Jennifer helped me find this lamp and gave it to us as a gift. Now we needed a beautiful end table to set it on. Larry and Dave came up with the measurements and design.

So guests are not dripping wet after relaxing in our hot tub, Larry built this beautiful towel rack for their towels.

Isn't this the coolest idea that Larry came up with for trivets? Makes a beautiful setting on our dining table.
